Workforce Training

In an age of accountability, educators, government policy makers and corporations are increasingly required to supply evidence that justifies education technology investments and supports all aspects of technology planning, implementation and evaluation.

Since its earliest classroom applications, technology has served as a very successful and efficient tutor for learners developing basic reading and math skills. As an instructional tool, technology helps all learners, including poor students and students with disabilities, master basic and advanced skills required for the workforce. As an assessment tool, technology yields meaningful information, on demand, about learners' progress and accomplishments and provides a medium for its storage. As a motivational tool, technology positively impacts workforce attitudes toward learning, self-confidence, and self-esteem.

Even as technology has helped learners master the traditional basic skills of reading, writing, and math, it has created new ones, those related to the use of technology itself. In the 21st century, 60 percent of all jobs in the nation require skills in computer and network use. This means that any student who does not know the essentials of using computers--word processors, spreadsheets, databases, networks, and operating systems--will be at a distinct disadvantage.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Certiport has completed two of the most powerful digital literacy assessment solutions ever developed. The Internet and Computing Benchmark and the Internet and Computing Mentor are comprehensive assessment tools, mapped to globally accepted digital literacy standards. These tools provide teachers and administrators a robust new system to evaluate the level of digital literacy among their students.

THE INTERNET AND COMPUTING BENCHMARK™

The Internet and Computing Benchmark gives administrators the ability to identify the level of digital literacy in students, analyze progress through detailed reports, develop effective training programs, evaluate and demonstrate the success of those programs and fully prepare students to excel in their lives through the efficient use of technology.

THE INTERNET AND COMPUTING MENTOR™

The Internet and Computing Mentor provides comprehensive reporting capabilities for students and can be grouped by classroom, school, district or state. The Mentor also provides advanced tutoring for students by offering three levels of assistance. If a question is answered incorrectly, the system will graphically guide them in finding the correct answer. In addition, custom study guides – with the option to map to certified courseware – enable prescriptive/just-in-time learning.

KEY BENEFITS

Through the Internet and Computing Benchmark and Mentor, educators and administrators now have access to validated data to drive curriculum planning, determine resource allocation and verify progress reports to support requirements for funding opportunities and mandates such as the No Child Left Behind act. At all levels – individual, classroom, school, district and state – this suite of reporting tools provide academic institutions with dynamic reports that clearly illustrate status of skill sets, the required remediation, student progress and the overall level of digital literacy in their schools.

Individualized Learning Management

With these tools, teachers can organize students based on their current level of digital competence. Students that need additional instruction won’t be left behind and those with advanced knowledge can bypass training on skills they already have. This allows teachers the ability to accurately classify their students and address individual needs with individual learning programs.

Accountability and Yearly Progress

Robust and customizable reporting allows teachers, schools, districts and states the ability to understand the current level of digital literacy of their students and track the progress gained by the implementation of new programs and the use of technology in the classroom. In addition, it meets the needs of administrators to provide accurate reporting for funding requirements and programs such as the No Child Left Behind Act.

Prescriptive Learning

The Internet and Computing Mentor provides prescriptive learning by offering three levels of assistance and custom study guides that map to approved courseware. Through these tools, the Mentor identifies learning gaps and tracks the student’s efforts in completing a task, thus allowing teachers to address specific knowledge deficits.

Data Driven Curriculum Planning

The Internet and Computing Benchmark and the Internet and Computing Mentor allow for extensive and customizable reporting. This flexibility and level of detail generate critical data needed to evaluate current programs and adjust curriculum to best meet the needs of students.

Leveraging Technology for an Enhanced Learning Experience

All too often, teachers find technology a hindrance to teaching because of the disparity among students’ level of digital competence. The Internet and Computing Benchmark and the Internet and Computing Mentor give teachers and schools the tools they need to eliminate the digital divide among students and focus on using relevant levels of technology to enhance the learning experience.
